Smart Menu

Perhaps, it is the tastiest application we've ever developed. The Smart Menu system can be deployed in a restaurant just in a few hours. And by no means this is an exaggeration. From the very beginning we had to select the platform - either iOS or Android - for which the application would be developed. The world financial crisis, as well as the fact that in a medium-sized restaurant there should be at least 20-30 devices at hand, made us decide that Android device is the best choice. At the same time, Apple device attracted us with its interface responsiveness and with pleasant feelings from working with it. Finally, the task was formulated as follows: Develop client application for Android platform so that its performance would excite just an appetite and positive emotions.

This project interested me primarily with its server-side. Administrator tab for creating a new restaurant, Administrator tab for adding content from the corresponding restaurant, and, finally, Administrator tab for tracking orders and water calls. We've managed to assemble all these details into a single system without missing confidentiality and performance issues. As a result, we've created such a smooth and clear control system, that we are rightly proud of it.

The Smart Menu application can work in two modes – as a “Desktop menu” or as a “Portable menu”. When used in the first mode, the menu is fixed on the table in an anti-vandal case. Such an option is ideal for fast-food restaurants with high turnover of clients. The second mode suits the businesses that want to emphasize their status. The menu is brought to each restaurant visitor in an expensive leather cover.

We aspired to create a functional application with an attractive interface. Pure and bright design, based on our concept, has to accentuate visitor's attention on images of appetizing dishes.

Testing this project, we had to modify significantly the standard procedure, which targets application bugs, and paid as much attention to application usability, as possible. Before releasing the application, we deployed it in two pretty large restaurants. We collected a huge user statistics in just one month. The analysis of collected data and “correction of mistakes” took us several more weeks to do. As a result, the final version of the application was modified and became unrecognizable to the initial one. But, our efforts were greatly praised by restaurant visitors. The result of our work is an application that is definitely one of the best in its domain.

We observe an interesting phenomenon. The majority of our clients join the list of our regular customers, and it does make us happy. What else, if not this fact, we can cite as the highest appreciation of our work?
